Log cabins with hot tub in Lapland
There is something special about returning to your own cabin after a winter day in Lapland, lighting the fireplace, warming the sauna and stepping outside into a hot tub surrounded by snow and silence.
For many travellers, a log cabin with a private hot tub is exactly how they imagine a holiday in Finnish Lapland: surrounded by nature, away from city lights, with time to slow down and enjoy the Arctic landscape together.
But not every cabin or hot tub offers the same experience. If you are looking for accommodation with a hot tub in Lapland, there are a few things worth considering before you book.
Why choose a log cabin with a hot tub in Lapland?
A hot tub transforms the cold Arctic outdoors into somewhere you actually want to stay for a while.
Instead of spending every evening travelling between activities, you can return to your cabin, warm up in the sauna and enjoy the winter landscape from your own yard.
It is also one of those rare holiday experiences that doesn’t require a schedule. There is nowhere you need to be and nothing you need to accomplish.
You can simply sit in the warm water, talk, watch the stars and listen to the silence around you.
And on a clear winter night, you might even find yourself watching the Northern Lights from the hot tub.
What to look for when choosing a cabin with a hot tub?
When comparing cabins with hot tubs in Lapland, it is worth looking beyond the photos.
Is the hot tub private?
If privacy is important to you, check whether the hot tub belongs exclusively to your accommodation or is shared with other guests.
A private hot tub allows you to enjoy the evening at your own pace without reservations, schedules or other groups around you.
How close are the neighbouring cabins?
A cabin can be surrounded by nature and still have another accommodation only a few metres away.
Look at the surroundings as well as the cabin itself. If you are travelling to Lapland for peace and privacy, the space around your accommodation can make a surprisingly big difference.
Is the hot tub included?
Some accommodations include an outdoor jacuzzi in the nightly price, while traditional Finnish wood-fired hot tubs are often available as an additional service.
Check what is included before booking so you know exactly what kind of experience to expect.
Is it a jacuzzi or a traditional Finnish hot tub?
They offer slightly different experiences. A jacuzzi-style outdoor tub is convenient and can usually be enjoyed whenever you like.
A traditional Finnish hot tub, often called a palju, is heated with firewood. Heating the water slowly outdoors is part of the experience itself.
If you would like to understand the difference, read our guide.
Can you see the Northern Lights from the property?
A hot tub beneath the Northern Lights sounds wonderful but the location of your accommodation matters.
Artificial light can make faint auroras much harder to see. Accommodation surrounded by nature and naturally dark skies gives you the possibility to watch the sky without first driving somewhere else.
The Northern Lights can also appear and disappear surprisingly quickly. Staying somewhere with dark skies means that when they appear, you can simply step outside.

Does the cabin have a private sauna?
For us, the sauna and hot tub naturally belong together.
After spending the day outside in the Arctic winter, you can warm up in your own sauna before heading outside to the hot tub.
It is a simple combination, but often one of the moments people remember most from their holiday.
A different kind of evening in Lapland
It is easy to fill a Lapland holiday with activities. Husky safaris, reindeer, snowmobiles, skiing and excursions are all wonderful ways to experience the North. But we also believe some of the best moments happen when nothing is planned.
A fire burning inside.
Snow falling outside.
A warm sauna.
A hot tub beneath the winter sky.
And nowhere else you need to be.
For us, this is an important part of experiencing Lapland. The silence and nature are not simply the background to your holiday; they are part of the experience itself.
Log cabins with hot tubs at Napapiirin Järvilomat
Our family-run accommodation is located beside Lake Vietonen in Raanujärvi, approximately one hour from Rovaniemi.
Rather than building our cabins close together, we have chosen to preserve the forest and space around them. This gives each accommodation its own surroundings and allows our guests to experience something that is becoming increasingly difficult to find in busy tourism destinations: peace and privacy.
Here, evenings don’t have to end when the day’s activities are over.
You can return to your cabin, light the fireplace, enjoy your private sauna and spend the rest of the evening outside beneath the northern sky.
Villa Honka – A lakeside log villa with a private hot tub
Villa Honka is our spacious Finnish log villa for families and groups looking for privacy, nature and time together.
The villa has its own sauna, fireplace and peaceful lakeside surroundings. A private outdoor hot tub can be added to your stay and is located on the villa’s own terrace, just a few steps from the sauna.
During winter, the surrounding snow, frozen lake and dark skies create exactly the kind of setting many people imagine when dreaming about Lapland.
And if the Northern Lights appear, you don’t need to leave your accommodation to look for them. Simply step outside and look towards the sky.
Best for: families, groups of friends and longer stays.

A traditional Finnish wood-fired hot tub can also be added to selected cabin stays.
Unlike a permanently heated jacuzzi, a traditional hot tub is filled with water and heated slowly using firewood. Depending on the weather, heating normally takes several hours.
We fill the tub and provide the firewood. Guests can enjoy heating it themselves, or for an additional fee, we can prepare the entire hot tub ready for you to enjoy.
You can read more about how it works in our Finnish Hot Tub guide.
Prefer a jacuzzi that’s always ready?
If you love the idea of stepping into warm water whenever you like, our Hidden Aurora Huts offer a different experience.
Each hut has its own private sauna and private outdoor jacuzzi included in the stay. Large north-facing windows allow you to watch the Arctic sky from inside, while the jacuzzi offers another place to look for the Northern Lights outdoors.
They are especially suited to couples looking for a peaceful and romantic stay surrounded by nature.
FAQ
Is a private hot tub available with accommodation in Lapland?
Yes. Many cabins and holiday homes in Finnish Lapland offer private hot tubs or outdoor jacuzzis. At Napapiirin Järvilomat, traditional wood-fired hot tubs are available with selected cabins, while our Hidden Aurora Huts have private outdoor jacuzzis included in the stay.
What is the difference between a Finnish hot tub and a jacuzzi?
A traditional Finnish hot tub, or palju, is usually heated with firewood and takes several hours to reach bathing temperature. A jacuzzi is typically electrically heated and can remain ready for use. Both allow you to enjoy the Arctic outdoors in warm water, but the experience is slightly different.
Can I see the Northern Lights from a hot tub in Lapland?
It is possible, but the Northern Lights can never be guaranteed. Choosing accommodation away from strong artificial lighting gives you a better environment for watching the sky when aurora activity and weather conditions are favourable.
Is a private sauna included with the cabins?
Our main accommodations have private saunas. This makes it easy to combine two Finnish winter traditions: warming up in the sauna and then stepping outside to enjoy the hot tub.
How long does a wood-fired hot tub take to heat?
A traditional wood-fired hot tub generally takes around 4–6 hours to heat, depending on the outdoor temperature and conditions.
Do I need a car to stay outside Rovaniemi?
We recommend renting a car when staying with us because public transportation in the area is very limited. The drive from Rovaniemi takes approximately one hour.
Is staying outside Rovaniemi worth it?
For travellers looking for nature, privacy, dark skies and a quieter Lapland experience, staying outside the city can be one of the highlights of the trip. You can still visit Rovaniemi and its attractions during the day while returning to peaceful countryside surroundings in the evening.
