Ice fishing safari in peaceful Finnish Lapland
Experience ice fishing on a frozen lake surrounded by the quiet winter landscapes of Finnish Lapland.
Our two-hour guided safari begins at our reception in Raanujärvi. Your guide transports you to the fishing location in a sleigh pulled by a snowmobile, provides all the necessary equipment and shows you how to fish through the ice.
No previous experience is needed. Warm winter clothing, fishing equipment, transportation to the fishing location, guidance in English, a warm drink and traditional Lappish snacks are included.
The safari is available to both our accommodation guests and visitors staying elsewhere.
A calm two-hour experience on the ice
Ice fishing is a simple and peaceful way to spend time outdoors and experience a local winter tradition.
The experience begins at our reception, where you receive warm clothing and the necessary fishing equipment. Your guide then transports the group through the snowy landscape in a snowmobile-pulled sleigh.
Customers do not drive the snowmobile during this safari. You can sit back and enjoy the journey through the winter scenery.
At the lake, your guide will show you how to:
- choose a suitable fishing spot
- drill a hole through the ice
- prepare the rod and bait
- use the equipment
- recognise when a fish bites
You can then try ice fishing for yourself while enjoying the silence and open landscape around you.
Catching a fish can never be guaranteed. The experience is as much about spending time in nature and learning a local winter tradition as it is about the catch.

If you have a health condition, injury or limited mobility, contact us before booking so that we can assess whether the experience is suitable.
A warm break by the fire
During the safari, the group takes a break outdoors to enjoy a warm drink and traditional Lappish snacks by the fire.
The break is part of the experience. It gives you time to warm up, enjoy the peaceful surroundings and talk with your guide about ice fishing and winter life in Lapland.
Let us know about any food allergies or dietary requirements when making your reservation.
What happens if I catch a fish?
If you catch a fish, you may keep it if you wish.
Guests staying in our accommodation can prepare their catch in their lodge. Each accommodation has cooking facilities for preparing your own meals.
