Enjoy the winter landscape from a sleigh pulled by the guide’s snowmobile.

This private experience is suitable for families, children and guests who prefer not to drive a snowmobile. The journey covers approximately 20 kilometers and includes opportunities to stop for photographs and enjoy the scenery.

A warm drink and small snack are served outdoors during the experience.

A private safari on quiet local routes

Privacy is the main difference between our flagship safari and a typical large snowmobile excursion.

On a private safari:

• only your own party joins the departure
• the pace is adapted to your experience
• stops can be made according to your group’s needs
• you have more time for photographs
• beginners can practise without pressure
• the guide can give your group personal attention

Our routes are in the local area around Raanujärvi. We know the forests, lake areas and changing winter conditions closely because this is where we live and work.

Your English-speaking guide is usually Elias, one of the owners of Napapiirin Järvilomat. He remains with your group throughout the experience.

Is the Ultimate Snowmobile Adventure private?

No. The Ultimate Snowmobile Adventure is a shared experience, which means guests who do not know each other may join the same departure.

However, it is still a very small safari. We have only three guest snowmobiles, allowing a maximum of six guests to travel by snowmobile at the same time.

Choose the Ultimate experience if you are comfortable sharing the departure and want a more affordable option. Choose the Private Snowmobile Safari when you want the guide and departure exclusively for your own party.

What happens during the safari?

Your experience begins at our reception in Raanujärvi.

We provide the necessary winter equipment and explain how to operate the snowmobile safely. The guide gives driving and safety instructions before the group leaves.

The exact route depends on the experience and current conditions. It may include:

• snow-covered forest routes
• quiet open landscapes
• frozen lake areas when conditions are safe
• stops for photographs
• a warm drink and snack
• ice fishing when included in the selected experience

Routes, distances and timings may be adjusted because of weather, snow or ice conditions. Safety always comes first.

Suitable for first-time snowmobile drivers

You do not need previous snowmobile experience.

Before departure, the guide explains the controls, safe driving distances and how to behave on the route. The pace is adjusted to the group, and private safaris provide additional time and space for first-time drivers.

The driver must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid driving licence recognised in Finland.

Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited.

Two guests share one snowmobile

Our snowmobiles are shared by two guests. One person drives while the other travels as a passenger.

Where conditions and the selected experience allow, the driver and passenger can change places during the safari.

Children and guests who do not drive may travel in a sleigh pulled by the guide’s snowmobile. Please check the age-specific arrangements on the booking page or contact us before booking if you are unsure which experience is suitable for your family.

Warm clothing and equipment are included

We provide the necessary equipment for the snowmobile experience, including:

• thermal overalls
• winter boots
• gloves
• helmet
• balaclava

Fuel is also included in the price.

Wear warm base layers, a suitable mid-layer and wool socks underneath the provided outdoor clothing. Dressing in layers makes it easier to stay comfortable during changing winter conditions.

Safety and health considerations

Every safari begins with driving and safety instructions. Guests must follow the guide’s directions throughout the experience.

Insurance is included according to the conditions stated on the booking page. A driver may remain liable for damage up to the applicable deductible, so read the product-specific booking conditions before participating.

Guests who are pregnant or have a health condition, injury or limited mobility should contact us before booking so that we can assess which experience is suitable.

We can also discuss other individual circumstances and help you choose between driving a snowmobile and travelling in a sleigh.

Departure point and getting here

All snowmobile experiences depart from the reception at Napapiirin Järvilomat in Raanujärvi.

Please arrive approximately 15 minutes before the stated starting time so that there is enough time to change into the provided clothing.

We do not provide transfers from Rovaniemi or other locations. A rental car is therefore recommended for visitors who are not staying with us.

Free parking is available at the departure point.

Guided experiences only – no independent rental

We do not rent snowmobiles for independent use.

All our snowmobile experiences are guided by a local guide. This allows us to choose routes according to current conditions and ensure that guests receive the necessary equipment, instructions and support.

Combine your safari with a stay in Lapland
